The
city of Granada is located at the foot of the sierra Nevada
mountains with its most famous landmark, the Alhambra Palace.
The Alhambra is not just one building, but consists of a number
of Palaces and fortresses built around the 13th Century. If
you only see one town in Spain it should be Granada. For here,
extraordinarily well preserved and in a tremendous natural
setting, stands the Alhambra – the most exciting, sensual
and romantic of all European monuments. It was the palace-fortress
of the last Spanish Moorish kingdom, and in its construction
Moorish art reached a spectacular climax. But the building
seems to go further than this, revealing something of the
whole brilliance and spirit of Moorish life and culture.
Almost unrivalled for beauty and architectural splendour,
the entire city has been declared a national monument. It
lies at the foot of Spain´s mightiest massif, the Sierra
Nevada, and on the edge of an extraordinarily fertile plain.
